Back In Action
The Alaska Black Caucus is pleased to announce its re-establishment. Long-time Alaskans may recall the Caucus was the pre-eminent community-based advocacy organization for the last quarter of the 20th century, with membership open to all people of goodwill.
At the Inaugural Bettye Davis African-American Summit held in February 2019, a group of former Caucus members from decades past were in attendance. They formed ties with the newer Alaskans in the state. Following that encounter, a core group of these individual met informally, on a number of occasions, to determine two things:
The First
If a need presently existed for an Alaska Black Caucus
The Second
Was archival information available such that a new Caucus could model after the successful one 45 years prior
As things have turned out, we found “Yes” answers to both questions. Our re-induction to the greater Anchorage area, in particular, and Alaska as a whole will be at the 2nd Annual Bettye Davis African-American Summit to be held on February 29, 2020.
