We warmly invite you to a special Zoom gathering hosted by the Alaska Black Caucus, featuring a conversation with the outgoing and termed out Assembly Chair of the Anchorage Assembly, Christopher Constant. Throughout his tenure, Chris has been a passionate advocate for our community and the Alaska Black Caucus leading significant funding efforts, including securing over $1.5 million in ARPA funding for the Alaska Black Caucus to acquire and completely renovate the Equity Center. This is a unique opportunity to hear about Chris’s journey on the Assembly, his achievements, and the ongoing efforts to uplift our community.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BLACK VOTE

Sunday, March 29th, 2026 7:00 – 8:00 PM (AKST)

A conversation about voting and the importance of the Black vote. We will discuss the history of Voting Rights: Explore the struggles faced by Black Americans in achieving the right to vote, from the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to modern-day challenges. We will highlight significant moments in history, such as the Civil Rights Movement, which aimed to secure voting rights and address systemic discrimination. We will address contemporary issues around voter suppression that disproportionately affect Black communities, such as ID laws, purging of voter rolls, and limited access to polling places and more.

 ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE FORUM

Anchorage Assembly candidates are invited to engage with the community, sharing their vision with constituents and discussing their thoughts on diversity, inclusion, and leadership. This forum serves as a vital platform for community participation, essential for addressing the unique needs and resolutions of diverse populations, particularly for all residents and communities that have been historically marginalized. We will also hear where candidates stand with the bonds on the ballot.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

In honor of International Women’s Day (IWD), we will explore this year’s powerful themes: UN Theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. “For ALL Women and Girls” Grassroots Theme: “Give To Gain”. This event highlights the importance of bridging the gap between legal rights and real-world applications, advocating for policy changes, and promoting generosity, mentorship, and collective support for gender equality.

VOICES OF GRACE

This time, we’re focusing on the impactful voices of Black women pastors. Join the Alaska Black Caucus as we visit Voices of Grace: Celebrating Black Women Pastors in the church —inspiring leaders who are breaking barriers and making significant impacts in their communities.

This event will feature engaging discussions on faith, leadership, and the unique challenges faced by Black women in ministry. We aim to create a space for connection, empowerment, and sharing of experiences.

KWANZAA!

Join us for a special community conversation Sunday, November 30th, 7-8 PM on Zoom as we celebrate Kwanzaa! Let’s come together to honor the rich traditions and principles of this meaningful holiday. We’ll discuss the significance of each of the seven principles, share stories, and enjoy some virtual activities to enhance our celebration. Whether you’re familiar with Kwanzaa or want to learn more, all are welcome. Let’s embrace unity, creativity, and cultural heritage together. We look forward to seeing you there!

 

BENNY BENSON VS THE KKK

We are honored to have Dr. Michael “iqyax” Livingston as our community conversation guest speaker on Sunday, November 23rd, 7-8 PM on Zoom. Dr. Michael will present on the inspiring story of Benny Benson vs. the KKK: Alaska’s 7th Grade Super Hero. Discover how a courageous 14-year-old Alaska Native boy fought against racism in 1927 to win the Alaska flag contest. This event commemorates the upcoming 100-year anniversary of this pivotal moment in our history, which will be celebrated on July 9, 2027.

November is a time to recognize the significant contributions of Native Americans to the history and culture of the United States. National American Indian Heritage Month provides an opportunity to honor the rich traditions, languages, and histories of Indigenous peoples while raising awareness of the challenges they face today.
