Hoops4Unity Basketball, Friday February 20, 6:00 pm to 7:30pm

This free event brings together kids and law enforcement for a day of basketball and connection. This initiative is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity to foster understanding and build relationships between minority youth and police officers in our community. Kids ages 7-18 are all welcome.
Through Hoops4Unity, the goal is to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create a safe space where young people can engage with law enforcement in a positive environment. By encouraging teamwork and camaraderie on the court, we are helping to cultivate trust and mutual respect. This event embodies our commitment to promoting unity and empowerment, and it can have a lasting impact on the lives of the participants and the broader community.
Every kid receives a tee shirt, medal, trophy, and free pizza. Must register!

7th Annual Bettye Davis Summit, February 28th, 2026

“Bridging Generations for Justice: Honoring Heritage and Empowering Future Leaders”

You’re Invited to the free 7th annual 2026 Bettye Davis African American Summit!

We are excited to invite you to attend the Bettye Davis African American Summit in celebration of Black History Month on Saturday, February 28th, from 10 AM to 4 PM. The event will take place at Alaska Pacific University (Grant Hall), located at 4101 University Drive.

This year’s theme, “Bridging Generations for Justice: Honoring Heritage and Empowering Future Leaders,” continues the legacy of the late state senator Bettye Davis. The summit serves as an essential platform for the Black community and other people of color to come together, engage in meaningful conversations, and take action to make Alaska a better place for everyone.

During the luncheon, candidates will have the opportunity to share brief remarks, allowing you to connect one-on-one with them as they convey their vision and priorities. Throughout the day, we will host a voter empowerment carnival and panel discussions on crucial topics such as immigration policies, health, and education funding, among others. The Grammy Award-winning group Club Nouveau will join us for the Summit luncheon and will kickoff the Summit at a “Get Out the Vote” concert on Friday, February 27th at Williwaw at 8 PM. Tickets for this exciting performance are on sale now!

We sincerely hope you can join us for this year’s Summit and concert.

We’re looking for sponsors and booth vendors, advertisers and volunteers to support the event:
