Bettye Davis African American Summit

The free 7th annual 2026 Bettye Davis African American Summit was successfully held in celebration of Black History Month on Saturday, February 28th, from 10 AM to 4 PM at Alaska Pacific University (Grant Hall), located at 4101 University Drive. Centered around this year’s theme, “Bridging Generations for Justice: Honoring Heritage and Empowering Future Leaders,” the summit continued the powerful legacy of the late state senator Bettye Davis. The event served as an important platform for the Black community and other people of color to come together, engage in meaningful conversations, and take action toward making Alaska a better place for everyone.

Hoops4Unity

This free event brought together kids and law enforcement for a day of basketball and connection. This initiative was more than just a game; it was an opportunity to foster understanding and build relationships between minority youth and police officers in our community. Kids ages 7–18 were all welcome.

Through Hoops4Unity, the goal was to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create a safe space where young people could engage with law enforcement in a positive environment. By encouraging teamwork and camaraderie on the court, the event helped cultivate trust and mutual respect. This event embodied a commitment to promoting unity and empowerment, and it had the potential to create a lasting impact on the lives of participants and the broader community.

MLK Jr. Day Cultural Celebration

Every year, we come together to celebrate diversity, promote understanding, and uplift each other in the spirit of unity. This event is a perfect opportunity to reflect on our shared values and inspire positive change within our community.
