State prosecutors have determined that two Anchorage Police Department officers, Parker Boydston and Jordan Varak, were legally justified in shooting and injuring a murder suspect near a downtown bar last month. This decision, the first finding on a series of police shootings in Alaska’s largest city this summer, was released by Alaska Department of Law officials in a letter this week.
This determination by state prosecutors comes during a time of heightened public scrutiny over police actions, as Anchorage officers have been involved in five shootings – three of them resulting in fatalities – since mid-May.
