Policy Corner: Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, The Alaska Black Caucus policy committee will
continually advocate for social policy; that will protect the health and the wellbeing
of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). To achieve our goals, we will
participate and collaborate with statewide diverse advocacy groups to provide
support and increase awareness on social justice, accountability, and human
rights.

Our committee will be present in upcoming meetings this month that address
defending our constitution in addition to the restructuring plans for the State
Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS). In addition, the 2022 legislative
session began in January; we welcome opportunities for collaborations with our
partners in fighting for and supporting legislation that promotes positive outcomes
for the lives of BIPOC people.

One action item we are proud of is endorsing Alaskans for Better Government.
