Wrapping up the year in Education

Welcome to Our New Members!

The Education Committee is thrilled to welcome our newest members: Shanice Lawton, Gretchen Guess, and Margaret Williams. We are excited about the fresh perspectives and energy that they will bring to our group!

Community Conversation Recap

On November 17th, we hosted a meaningful community conversation with Anchorage School District (ASD) staff members Sean Prince, Toni Riley, and Thaddous Jackson. The discussion centered on the importance of teaching Black History to all students in ASD, emphasizing that it must be a top priority. We are grateful to our panelists for their honest and insightful dialogue on this vital topic. A special thank you to those who attended virtually—your presence was invaluable. Stay tuned for a follow-up conversation in the spring as we continue this critical work!

Good News from ASD

The Anchorage School District has announced that Bear Valley, Tudor, and Wonder Park Elementary Schools will remain open and have been removed from the proposed school closure list. The school board will make a final decision on their Right Sizing Plan at the upcoming December 17th board meeting. Let’s continue to make our voices heard and show support for our schools!

Season’s Greetings

The Education Committee extends warm wishes for a happy and safe holiday season to all ABC members and community partners. We look forward to the exciting events planned in the new year!
