A Legacy of Justice

Anchorage Police Department (APD) Body Cameras. APD has posted a final draft of the body worn camera policy, which you can view online. The Anchorage Assembly also provided this fact sheet on body cameras.  APD has not purchased body cameras yet. The Assembly Public Safety Committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 11:15 to 12:30. We should attend (by phone) each month to follow progress on APD body cameras.

Redistricting. The Alaska Black Caucus joined as Amicus Curiae to a lawsuit challenging a proposed redistricting map that would combine house districts in Government Hill and North Muldoon with Eagle River districts to form 2 senate districts that would dilute the voter impact for those in the north Anchorage districts.  We were successful and Senate District K will pair house districts for North and South Muldoon.

COVID tool kits. The Alaska Black Caucus Justice Committee has completed “COVID tool kits” to provide those who have been incarcerated upon their release back to the community. Tool kits have now been distributed to the Department of Corrections and Reentry centers.

More recently, COVID tool kits were distributed on May 21 at the NUGHELNIK Just Transition Summit at the Dena’ina Center and the Resource Fair for Justice Involved Women at Partners For Progress.
