Anchorage Police Department (APD) Body Cameras. Where are the body cameras that we voted and paid for? The attached editorial published in today’s Anchorage Daily News sets out where we are in getting body cams on the streets.

This editorial came out days after we, along with the ACLU of Alaska, Northern Justice Project, and the Alaska NAACP, sent a letter to ADP, Mayor and Assembly demanding a timeline for implementation of body cams.
APD has not purchased body cameras yet. The Assembly Public Safety Committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 11:00 to 12:30. We should attend (by phone) each month to follow progress on APD body cameras. The next Public Safety Committee meeting is September 7, 2022 at 11:00.
Redistricting. The Alaska Black Caucus joined as Amicus Curiae to a lawsuit challenging a proposed redistricting map that would combine house districts in Government Hill and North Muldoon with Eagle River districts to form 2 senate districts that would dilute the voter impact for those in the north Anchorage districts. We were successful and Senate District K will pair house districts for North and South Muldoon. Now we are realizing the fruits of our labor during this election season.
The Equity Center. The Alaska Black Caucus has received funds for renovation of our Equity Center. The Justice Committee has received a lot of interest from people in the community that would like to join us as committee members and Allies. Having a space for meeting and collaborating will support our progress in recruiting others to join us in addressing social justice issues.
