Building a Network of Black Healthcare Providers in Alaska

The Health Committee is an active group that meets every three weeks on Tuesdays from 7-8 pm.

We are currently working on developing and expanding the Alaska Black Healthcare Provider Directory. We recently enjoyed working with Hope Wells, a research fellow at UAA, who made contact with Black health care providers in Alaska to find out if they wanted to be listed in the directory. Once we have completed this process, ABC will be making the directory available. We also hope to convene some networking events to bring Black health care providers together and to help connect them with people seeking their services.

The Health Committee is helping to plan for a Community Conversation on December 11th about how to build health and wellness through traditional foods and nutrition. We are hoping to bring experts from African Americans Reach and Teach Health https://www.aarth.org/ to learn how they have reduced risks for diabetes and other chronic diseases in their communities.

We are also planning to apply for funding to address opioid misuse and addiction through the Governor’s Council that is currently meeting to make statewide recommendations. Please join us at our next meeting!
