“We are not waiting for others to act, we are taking matters into our own hands. It’s time for good and necessary trouble.”
Part of this community conversation will include a brief presentation on the sales tax that is regressive, disproportionately impacting low and middle-income families while providing more relief to wealthier residents. We must take action against the sales tax proposal!
In the meantime, please email your Assembly members (assembly@anchorageak.gov) today and ask them to vote down any sales tax proposal. In the event a sales tax proposal moves forward, it will lead to a Special Election where we will need to get in good and necessary trouble by making our voices heard by voting No.
Here’s what you need to know:
– What is it? A proposed 1% sales tax intended to reduce property taxes and fund city projects.
– How does it affect you?
– Lower-Income Households: You could face a tax burden of 3.4% of your income.
– Middle-Income Households: You might pay about 1.1% of your income.
– Higher-Income Households: They would pay only 0.7% of their income.
